Shuntong (Anivia) Deng is a soprano from Foshan, Guangdong, looking forward to beginning her MA in Music Performance: Vocal Studies at the University of York in September 2026. Previously, she was a choral scholar in the professional 18-voice choir at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York, where she also sang with the volunteer Cathedral Chorale in concert performances.
Anivia graduated with highest honors in History of Art and Design, with a minor in book arts, from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, in May 2026. Whilst in New York, Anivia studied classical singing with Giovanna Yaqi Yang and participated in various amateur and semi-professional choirs. Her ensemble engagements include Saint Andrew Chorale at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, as well as Central City Chorus, where she is still serving as a program designer. She has also sung at Carnegie Hall and participated in the world premiere of Jonathan Dove's Search for Spring at Lincoln Center. Back in China, Anivia has sung with the Guangzhou Baroque Orchestra and its affiliated choir in excerpts from Handel's Messiah.
Outside of her singing, Anivia is a book artist and publication designer.
